Batman : 1939

Broken by the brutal murders of his wife Martha and son Bruce, Thomas Wayne is consumed by grief and rage. Driven by a deep need for vengeance, he transforms into a relentless vigilante, Gotham's first dark knight. A personal take on my all time favourite superhero: Batman. Inspired by the very first version of the character, this project tries to blend some of that original spirit with the visual language of art deco. I've always been drawn to the bold and colourful aesthetics of the 1960's TV series and the wild and stylised world of Joel Schumacher's films. Borrowing from that visual vocabulary, with this project I tried to explore spaces, character and, of course, found a good excuse to design the Batmobile. Originally envisioned on a larger scale, the scope was narrowed down to keep the project feasible. There's always room to expand it in the future, but for now I hope you enjoy this small slice of Gotham through my eyes.
